Kelvin Taylor finishes second in Florida Mr. Football voting

by Jeff Greer

For the third time this season, Derrick Henry bested Kelvin Taylor.

Henry, Yulee?s monstrous running back who?s built like a defensive end, surpassed Taylor in the running for the national rushing record and Henry?s Yulee topped Taylor?s Glades Day on national television. On Monday, Henry beat out Taylor for the 2012 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Football award, given to the state?s top high school player.

Henry (6-foot-3, 240 pounds) received 18 of the 25 first-place votes for the award. The Alabama commit was the only player to receive double-digit first-place votes. Taylor, who?s bound for Florida next year, tallied the most total points other than Henry in the voting process, thanks in large part to 13 second-place votes.

Bradenton-Manatee quarterback Cord Sandberg finished third in voting, and Miami Washington coach Tim Harris took home Coach of the Year honors. No area coaches were up for that award.
